Downtime
Downtime after a tummy tuck is significant and requires careful aftercare. Most patients experience swelling,
bruising, and discomfort during the first week, which can be managed with prescribed medication. A compression
garment is usually worn for about six weeks to help reduce swelling and support the healing process. Patients
typically need to take two to three weeks off work, with more time required if their job involves physical activity. Light
walking is encouraged soon after surgery to promote circulation, but strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be
avoided for about six weeks. While most of the swelling will subside within a few weeks, the final results will continue
to improve over the next six to eight months.
